Fire Escape

Fire Escape is a Mobile Puzzle game made by students in Unity at The Game Assembly

Main Responsibilities

Pathfinding

I wrote our player characters pathfinding algorithm, it was designed with the goal as the starting point and calculated the path back towards the player through the obstacles, if the path reached water along the path then the character would pick that as its destination instead to create an additional lose condition. The path was calculated from the the ‘Burning’ script that objects were tagged with when it connected up to the players spawn point, this meant that a guaranteed path was created, and the algorithm was used to make the fastest possible path to the exit.

Animations

I set up and implemented our animation tree, implementing and tweaking our animation blending. I also added in behaviours that the character would stand on the top of objects it was running along, the height being based on a per object basis.

Level Resets

I designed and implemented our level reset functionality where a level could be reset without the level needing to be reloaded making it fast to reattempt the puzzle.

Engine

I worked on a few back end systems building upon the motor provided by the school to add support to resize the window in run time, to enhance the options provided in the option menu.

Software Support

I sat part of this project supporting the other disciplines with the emulator software that we used helping them to install it and set up the proper minimum mobile specs that the game was required to run on.
